JPIV

JPIV is a software package for Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The program is open source, platform independent, and available under the terms of the GNU General Public Licence.

JPIV is useful for:

multi-pass PIV evaluation
sum of correlation ensemble evaluation
single pixel ensemble evaluation
correlation window deformation
vector field filtering
calculation of vorticity and other derivatives
third velocity component reconstruction
image display (png, tif, pgm, imx, im7)
vector field display
vector field graphics export (eps, pdf, emf, svg, swf)
velocity profile extraction
vector field statistics
command line control and scripting
batch processing of a file list as well as directories

I hope, these are enough key words for Google to guide you here :-) let's mention what JPIV is not intended for:

image acquisition (the vendor of your camera might have supplied you with some software)
image pre-processing (I like to use ImageJ for that purpose)

The crutial advantage of JPIV over most commercial PIV packages is, that you have full access to a well documented source code. You can easily insert a few lines of code to extract some intermediate data for your studies, alter a few lines to test a new correlation or filtering approach, add a new class for a unique visualization, and so forth.

I used JPIV in the scope of my thesis about micro-scale blood flow measurements.
